An Introduction
From the initial idea by one disillusioned and frustrated landlord, Surerent has grown into its present form and taken on a life of its own. It is much needed and it is here, now. Hopefully to bring a level of reliability to a current rental market that is full of pitfalls and fraud.
Other landlords, excited and enthusiastic about the aims of the site have also come on board and helped create this exciting and revolutionary means of renting out properties.
The whole project with the ideas and input from all involved was handed over early in 2008 to web designers, Dusza, who have put together an innovative and unique site with very powerful and precise search functions and special, much needed features such as the 'make an offer' option and the feedback facility.
The aim was never to be biased on the side of either tenants or landlords but to provide an even and fair approach for each participant in the renting market.
Many tenants are discriminated against because of the DSS label. Sometimes deservedly and sometimes not. How to tell the difference? References are no longer worth the paper they are written on in a great many instances. Telephone calls to previous landlords turn out to be with someone’s friend or father. People will do anything to get into a rented home and quite often the landlord will eventually do anything and everything to get rid of troublesome tenants - including giving them a glowing reference.
The feedback feature is the backbone of the site. Landlords and tenants giving feedback to one another is true verification, especially when it is after the tenancy has ended and the tenant has vacated the property. It is in everyone’s interest to be fair and honest and ultimately could solve not least, the growing problem of tenants breaking the terms of their lease.
We at Surerent have every confidence in the aims of the site and in its applications. We invite you to join us whether a tenant or a landlord and contribute to what could become a national checking area for the credibility of prospective tenants and the integrity of prospective landlords. It would not be lawful to simply have a register of ‘bad tenants’ or ‘unscrupulous landlords’ but we have tried to find a way of having a ‘register’ which, if as a tenant or landlord does not have your name added with healthy feedback, will speak volumes for your reliability and honesty.
